A major figure of the Japanese video game industry is no longer with us, as it was recently announced that Nihon Falcom founder Masayuki Kato has passed away. According to Nihon Falcom’s statement, Kato passed on December 15 at the age of 78. Kato was 34 years old when he founded Nihon Falcom in March 1981. He has been president ever since, and added the role of chairman back in 2001. The company is known for developing a wide range of RPGs and action-RPGs, including revered series such as Ys and The Legend of Heroes. There will be a memorial gathering at a later time, but details have yet to be confirmed. For now, a wake and funeral are being held for close family members. Our thoughts go out to Masayuki Kato’s family, friends, colleagues, and the fans who have enjoyed the many games his company created over the years. Top image via Yahoo!
