It seems the fees for car parks in Tokyo have gotten too expensive because award-winning anime Hayao Miyazaki has moved his family’s beloved Citroën 2CV from his home in the metropolis to Ghibli Park in Nagoya. Miyazaki drew the car with his avatar image to celebrate the relocation of the car, as well as a story about the purchase of the vehicle. Alongside this, a new ticket type for the park will be debuting in April 2025.
The car will go on display in Ghibli’s Grand Warehouse from January 29 alongside the exhibition “The Story of Hayao Miyazaki’s 2CV.” The story will depict how the director used the car in his daily life, such as taking his kid to nursery school, eventually falling in love the car and becoming a treasured part of the Miyazaki family.
Park director and Miyazaki’s son, Goro Miyazaki, said about the car, “The Miyazaki family no longer drives the 2CV, but it is filled with many memories. We hope that it will be treasured for a long time at Ghibli Park.” There’s no end date to the exhibition.
After promoting a full park ticket to Ghibli Park in the last revamp of the ticketing system, tickets for each individual area will once again be available for an April entrance this February.
