The next sci-fi anime from legendary creator Shinichiro Watanabe will soon be upon us. The official X (formerly Twitter) account for LAZARUS revealed tonight that its Japan broadcast will start in April 2025 on TV Tokyo. Alongside the premiere timing, a new visual was released featuring all the main characters.
Shinichiro Watanabe writes the original story and directs LAZARUS at animation studio MAPPA with planning production by SOLA ENTERTAINMENT. Dai Sato, Takahiro Ozawa (Ume), and Tsukasa Kondo join Watanabe in writing the scripts. Chad Stahelski (87Eleven Action Design) serves as action supervisor, Akemi Hayashi provides the character designs, and Kamasi Washington / Bonbo / Floating Points provides the music.
The synopsis of LAZARUS reads:
The year is 2052.The world has entered an era of unprecedented peace and stability, largely due to Hapna, a drug developed by neuroscientist Dr. Skinner. Hapna spread throughout the world as a “miracle drug” with no side effects and freed mankind from pain. However, its developer, Skinner, suddenly disappear and no one knew where he had gone.–Three years later, he reappears as a demon who leads the world to ruin.Hapna was a trap, a drug that causes death after three years of use. “Thirty days left. If you can find my place by then, humanity will survive.” The only way to save the world is to use the only vaccine Skinner has.Lazarus, a team of five agents gathered from around the world to fight Skinner’s plot.
