A live-action movie adaptation of Momoko Koda’s (No Longer Heroine) romantic comedy manga series My Special One (known as Kimi ga Tokubetsu in Japan) is set to release in Japan on June 20, 2025.Kazuya Ohashi, a member of the real Japanese idol group Naniwa Danshi, is cast as the nation’s top idol, Kouta Kirigaya. Actor Mei Hata plays Sahoko Wakaume, the main heroine who falls in love with him. Hata has previously worked with Kyohei Takahashi, another member of Naniwa Danshi, in the live-action film adaptation of Kujira Anan’s romance shojo manga And Yet, You Are So Sweet in 2023.Ayato Matsuda serves as director on a screenplay by Satoko Okazaki. The film’s official website and X (formerly Twitter) opened and released a teaser trailer and visual.

The original author Koda shares the following message about the film:
Congratulations! My Special One live-action movie! I am so happy. Mei-chan’s Sahoko is already exploding with her gloomy nerd character that I can’t imagine from Mei-chan’s cuteness (laughs). It was so cute and adorable that I couldn’t take my eyes off it, and I was really thrilled that it was like Saohko just popped out of my manga! And personally, I had secretly dreamed of having Ohashi-kun play the role of Kouta if the live-action version was made, I was so happy when the decision was made that I was spinning in circles! It’s like Kouta is playing the role of Kouta, and I’m afraid I’m going to have a gestalt collapse of Kouta (laughs). I am confident that it will be a wonderful film, so please wait in anticipation!
Koda’s original My Special One manga ran in Shueisha’s Bessatsu Margaret monthly shojo manga magazine from March 2019 to January 2025, releasing 10 tankobon volumes in Japan to date.VIZ Media releses the manga’s English edition and describes the story:
