As part of the 50th anniversary project for the TV anime Space Battleship Yamato (Star Blazers in the West) following the screening events from December 2024 to January 2025, a special exhibition titled “Space Battle Ship Yamato: Complete Record Exhibition” is set to be held at the Seibu Shibuya department store in Tokyo for 17 days from March 15 to 31, 2025.As with the screening events, this exhibition is planned and produced by Hideaki Anno. From among the materials stored by the non-profit organization Anime Tokusatsu Archive Corporation (ATAC) founded by Anno, rare production materials, such as original key animation drawings and character/mechanic design arts from the production period, will be exhibited.Message from Hideaki Anno:
Japan’s “anime” began half a century ago with “Space Battleship Yamato,” which aired on October 6, 1974. If I had not encountered the epoch-making work “Space Battleship Yamato” at that time, I would not be where I am today. As an expression of gratitude, respect, and repayment for the tremendous influence “Yamato” had on my life, I would like to bequeath as much of the existing materials on “Space Battleship Yamato” as possible to future generations and hope that more people will see, know, remember, and be moved by it in the form of a complete record exhibition, and share it widely with the world. We would like to start from Shibuya, Tokyo in March. Thank you very much for your support.
In addition to paper materials, the history of “Space Battleship Yamato” from the first Yamato in 1974 to the remake series currently being shown is presented in a large chronological display. Analog records and nostalgic items from those days as well as a model of a giant Yamato ship will be on display. To commemorate Yamato’s 50th anniversary, a number of original merchandise exclusive to the venue will be on sale. Additionally, a collaboration café with “365cafe” on the fourth floor of the store will be held, offering special Yamato-inspired menus, dishes and drinks based on famous scenes.
