The official website for Anne Shirley, an upcoming new TV anime adaptation of Lucy Maud Montgomery’s classic novel Anne of Green Gables, announced today that the 24-episode series is set to premiere on NHK Educational TV on April 5, 2025, at 18:25 (JST).The official website and X (formerly Twitter) have also revealed a key visual and teaser trailer.

Anne of Green Gables was previously adapted into a TV anime series twice in Japan; The first one directed by Isao Takahata (Grave of the Fireflies) in 1979 and the second one directed by Katsuyoshi Watabe (Brave Exkaiser) in 2009. Both were animated by Nippon Animation as part of its World Masterpiece Theater series. The Answer Studio, which has high production quality and was involved in such films as Your Name. and Suzume, works on anime production of the third TV anime adaptation.Main voice cast members include:
