Announced back in June of 2023, the TV anime adaptation of cocoon, a manga about the closing days of World War II by Machiko Kyo, has revealed its main cast and staff. The series will broadcast on the BS NHK network beginning in late March of 2025, with an additional broadcast on the general NHK network scheduled to begin in August of 2025.
Akita Shoten serialized the original cocoon manga from March 2009 – May 2010 in their Elegance Eve josei manga magazine. Ina Yukimitsu directs the TV anime at animation studio Sasayuri. Hitomi Tateno serves as animation producer and Kensuke Ushio provides the music. Voice actors Hikari Matsushima and Marika Ito play the main characters Mayu and San, respectively.Set in Okinawa in the closing days of World War II, cocoon tells the story of Mayu and San, a pair of a students who become child soldiers while the War in the Pacific rages on. The series was previously adapted into a stage play in 2013.
