Colorful Stage! The Movie: A Miku Who Can’t Sing Surpasses One Billion Yen in Box Office Gross

The official X (formerly Twitter) for Colorful Stage! The Movie: A Miku Who Can't Sing announced on February 19 that the film's cumulative total gross in Japan has surpassed one billion yen (6.62 million USD). Apart from advanced theatrical screenings of Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning-, it has become the first Japanese theatrical anime film to reach the one billion yen mark among films released in 2025.The post also shared a new celebratory illustration drawn by the film's character designer and chief animation director, Yuki Akiyama.

Colorful Stage! The Movie: A Miku Who Can't Sing Surpasses One Billion Yen in Box Office Gross

The theatrical anime film based on the Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage! rhythm game series for smartphones opened in 148 theaters in Japan on January 17, 2025, earning 307 million yen (1.98 million USD) on 232,500 admissions and made a second-place debut in its first-weekend ranking. The film has stayed in the Japanese box office Top 10 for five consecutive weekends since then.

As previously reported, GKIDS will release the movie in North American theaters beginning on April 11, 2025.GKIDS describes the film as such:

Ichika is a high school musician who can enter a mysterious place called “SEKAI,” where she and her friends express their innermost emotions through music alongside Hatsune Miku. One day after giving a live performance, Ichika meets a new Miku that she has never seen before. No matter how hard this new Miku tries to sing, she struggles connecting with the hearts of her listeners. Miku must rely on the help of others to find a way to sing again.
