The Apothecary Diaries anime and the Japan Pharmaceutical Association are teaming up for a collaboration with Maomao set to appear in pharmacies and hospitals across Japan once again after an earlier cooperation with the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare. To celebrate the collab, a new visual of Maomao grinding up some medicine was released by the anime team.
The new visual, alongside the second season key visual, will also be used on prescription books to be distributed to over 52,000 pharmacies and hospitals around Japan. The prescription books will be free and distributed on a first-come-first-served basis from March.
Norihiko Naganuma (The Ancient Magus’ Bride) chief directs the anime adaptation of The Apothecary Diaries, and also serves as series composer. Akinori Fudesaka (Tsuredure Children) acts as the directpr at TOHO animation STUDIO and OLM. The series is originally written by Natsu Hyuga, with illustrations by Touko Shino.

Maomao lived a peaceful life with her apothecary father. Until one day, she’s sold as a lowly servant to the emperor’s palace. But she wasn’t meant for a compliant life among royalty. So when imperial heirs fall ill, she decides to step in and find a cure! This catches the eye of Jinshi, a handsome palace official who promotes her. Now, she’s making a name for herself solving medical mysteries!
