Tatsunoko Production’s 1990-1990 anime Kyatto Ninden Teyandee is one of those series that was treated to a wild localization, this one by way of Saban. Thus, Samurai Pizza Cats made its way to North America in 1991, and now, nearly 35 years later, the series has a new action-RPG on the way.Samurai Pizza Cats: Blast from the Past! comes from Dutch studio BLAST ZERO (Jitsu Squad), with Red Dunes Games from the United Arab Emirates handling global distribution with a planned 2026 launch. The 2D action-RPG lets players switch between the main members of the Pizza Cats—including Speedy Cerviche, Polly Esther and Guido Anchovy—as they dash through Little Tokyo. It’s currently planned for “all major platforms,” and is available to wishlist on Steam and the Epic Games Store.

This isn’t the first time the Pizza Cats have graced a video game. Tecmo made a platformer based on Kyatto Ninden Teyandee back in 1991. It was released on Famicom in Japan but never made its way to the west in an official capacity.Samurai Pizza Cats was released on Blu-ray via Discotek Media in 2016, but is now out of print. Here’s how they describe the series:
It’s felines fighting felons in this fantastic furry farce! A mixed-up city of old and new, Little Tokyo is an old-fashioned Japanese city populated by robotic animals, where samurai cats working out of a pizzeria punish packs of pugnacious pillagers all to protect the peace of the people.
They’ve got their work cut out for the, for in between the speedy delivery of pizza pies, the dirty rat (quite literally) of a politician named “Big Cheese” plots to control the city, and with his reach far exceeding his grasp, he’s continually cooking up constantly crazier contrivances!
