A compilation film for the first season Kaiju No. 8 as well as the “Hoshina’s Day Off” special episode will be screened in Japanese theaters beginning on March 28, 2025, and now a new character trailer (below) focusing on protagonist Kafka Hibino (voiced by Masaya Fukunishi) has been published. The second season of Kaiju No. 8 will begin broadcasting in Japan in July 2025.

Shueisha serializes the original Kaiju No. 8 manga by Naoya Matsumoto in their Shonen Jump+ digital manga magazine. Viz Media also publishes an English language version of the series. Shigeyuki Miya and Tomomi Kamiya direct the Kaiju No. 8 TV anime at animation studio Production I.G. Ichiro Okouchi provides the series composition, Tetsuya Nishio serves as chief animation director and character designer, Mahiro Maeda provides the kaiju design, Shinji Kimura serves as art director, and Yuta Bandoh provides the music.

The story revolves around Kafka Hibino, a 32-year-old longing to join The Defense Force and make good on his promise to a childhood friend, Mina Ashiro. He befriends a new coworker Reno Ichikawa, while cleaning up Kaiju remains, whose determination to join The Defense Force inspires Kafka to fulfill his childhood promise to pass the entrance exam and join Mina to protect humanity. When a small Kaiju burrows itself inside Kafka, he gains superhuman strength and powers fit for fighting Kaiju. He works to earn the trust of his human teammates, defeat increasingly powerful Kaiju, and keep the world safe.
