Japan Box Office: TRILLION GAME Live-Action Movie Stays at No.1 in 2nd Weekend

After making a first-place debut last weekend, the TRILLION GAME live-action feature film earned an additional 292 million yen (1.96 million USD) on 204,000 admissions in its second weekend, according to Kogyo Tsushinsha. While it was a 52.6 percent week-to-week drop, the sequel film to the 2023 TV drama based on Riichiro Inagaki and Ryoichi Ikegami's manga remained in first place on the weekend box office charts. Its total domestic gross is now 1.2 billion yen (8.01 million USD) earned from 860,000 ticket sales as of February 24.

Advance theatrical screenings of Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning-, the re-edited episode version of the upcoming Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX TV series, jumped up three positions to fourth in its sixth weekend. The possible reasons for the rise in the rankings include a new video shown beginning on February 22 after the main screening showing special footage, as well as new audience gifts and IMAX, MX4D and 4DX screenings starting. The anime’s official website reported the screenings have earned a cumulative 2,825,578,100 yen (18.87 million USD) on 1,722,304 admissions since debuting in Japanese theaters on January 17. While the main TV anime series is already set to premiere in Japan on April 8, and end date for the theatrical screenings was not announced at the time of reporting.

Gekijouban Nintama Rantaro Dokutake Ninja-tai Saikyou no Gunshi (translated to “Nintama Rantaro the Movie: The Strongest Strategist of the Dokutake Ninja Squad”) held the same fifth-place spot it did last week in its 10th weekend. The latest feature film from the Nintama Rantaro anime franchise has built up a 65-day cumulative of 2.7 billion yen (18 million USD) on 1.81 million admissions.

HYPNOSISMIC -Division Rap Battle-, the first anime feature film from the HYPNOSISMIC project, opened in 85 theaters on February 21 and made an eighth-place debut in the overall weekend ranking. The film also ranked first in Filmarks’ first-day satisfaction ranking with an average rating of 4.2/5.0 based on 282 reviews. This is the first “interactive film” in Japan for theatrical release, where the winner of a rap battle is decided by audience votes and the story progresses following the highest-voted option.

The live-action film adaptation of Kengo Hanazawa’s action manga series UNDER NINJA dropped one position to ninth in its fifth weekend.Colorful Stage! The Movie: A Miku Who Can’t Sing also went down one position to tenth in its sixth weekend.
