As previously reported, the cumulative total domestic gross of the live-action film adaptation of Akane Shimizu’s manga series Cells at Work! reached the six billion yen (40.15 million USD) mark by February 13.
To commemorate the great box office success, the manga author posted a newly-drawn celebratory illustration featuring Red Blood Cell, White Blood Cell, and Platelet on the film’s official X (formerly Twitter). The author’s comment accompanying the post reads: “I am very happy that so many people have enjoyed the movie ‘Cells at Work!’ I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all of you who support the series!”

The film opened in Japanese theaters on December 13, 2024, staying on No.1 in the box office ranking for four consecutive weekends. According to Animate Times, it had earned 6,200,709,900 yen (41.49 million USD) from 4,628,634 ticket sales as of February 26, in 75 days since its release.
Now it has become the 54th top-grossing Japanese film of all-time, surpassing the first live-action film of Mari Yamazaki’s Thermae Romae manga in 2012, which was also director Hideki Takeuchi’s previous top-grossing work.
