The Kawasaki-based museum dedicated to Doraemon creator Fujiko F. Fujio announced today that a new short anime commemorating the 40th anniversary of Fujio’s Chimpui manga will be screened from Wednesday, May 21, in conjunction with an exhibition of artwork from the series.
Acclaimed music video and anime opening/ending director Nobutaka Yoda is heading the project at studio Shin-Ei Animation, with a script by Azusa Serikawa, character designs and animation direction by Naoyuki Asano and music by Zo Zhit. Misaki Kuno, Megumi Han and Koichi Yamadera star as Chimpui, Eri and Wanderyu, respectively.
Fujiko F. Fujio’s Chimpui manga was first serialized in Fujiko Fujio Land magazine in June 1985 and ran until February 1991. Shin-Ei Animation produced a 56-episode television anime and film, both directed by Mitsuru Hongo (Ascendance of a Bookworm). The series is a slapstick comedy that follows two cute aliens who come to Earth to find a girl to marry their planet’s prince.
