The official website for Detective Conan: One-eyed Flashback, the upcoming 28th feature film in the Detective Conan/Case Closed anime franchise, announced that actor Takayuki Yamada and Mizuki Yamashita will join the film as special guest voice cast members. The two will play key characters in the story.
This is the first time in six years that two guests will be featured in a Conan film since Detective Conan The Fist of Blue Sapphire in 2019. Yamada has voice-acting experience in various TV anime and films, such as Papasu in the 2019 film Dragon Quest: Your Story, while this is Yamashita’s first voice-acting job.
Yamada plays Otomo Takashi, a quiet man who runs a charcoal hut in the mountains of Nagano and is deeply involved with Conan, Kogoro and the Nagano Prefectural Police from the middle of the story. Apart from his amiable and cooperative appearance, he is hiding some secrets.
“Since I usually use my whole body in my acting, I found it difficult to express reality with only my voice and emotions in the voice recording, but it was a learning experience for me, with new discoveries,” said Yamada. “I haven’t seen the finished film yet, but as a Kogoro Mori fan myself, I am looking forward to seeing Kogoro in action in it!”

Yamashita plays Madoka Tsuburai, a facility researcher belonging to the Nobeyama National Astronomical Observatory of Japan — which has a large parabolic antenna that caused Kansuke Yamato’s left eye to start tingling. At the beginning of the story, she is attacked by someone and becomes the catalyst for the case.
“I was actually able to visit the voice recording studio for the TV anime beforehand and was very impressed with the way the characters were brought to life, and afterward I was able to practice a little before going into the studio,” said Yamashita. “The Detective Conan series has been full of wonderful films every year, and this year’s film also has many scenes that fans would have wanted to see, so I hope that you will enjoy it!”

Detective Conan: One-eyed Flashback Latest Trailer
Detective Conan: One-eyed Flashback is set to open in Japan on April 18, 2025. Katsuya Shigehara (unit director on Detective Conan: Kurogane no Submarine) directs, with Takeharu Sakurai (Kurogane no Submarine, The Scarlet Bullet and more Conan movies) on the script.
The synopsis on the film’s official website reads (translated):
Mt. Miho in the Yatsugatake mountain range, Nagano Prefecture. While pursuing a “certain man” in the snowy mountains, Kansuke Yamato, a Nagano Prefectural Police officer, unexpectedly saw a shadow of someone in his field of vision. When he was caught off guard, a rifle bullet fired by “a man” grazed his left eye, causing an avalanche with a loud earth tremor. The avalanche swallowed him up…
Ten months later. After receiving a report that a researcher at the Nobeyama observatory of the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan had been attacked by an unknown assailant, Kansuke, who miraculously survived the avalanche, and Yui Uehara rushed to the scene. During the interview, the giant parabolic antenna of the observatory is set in motion, and suddenly the left eye of the injured and one-eyed Kansuke begins to tingle violently…
That night, the Mouri Detective Agency received a call from a detective called “Wani,” a close colleague of Kogoro’s from his days at the Metropolitan Police Department. He said that he was investigating an avalanche that Kansuke was involved in, and that he found Kogoro’s name in the case file. Kogoro promised to meet Wani at a later date, and Conan followed him, but as they were on their way to the meeting place, a gunshot suddenly rang out.
