That massive hit status was solidified today when the official X (formerly Twitter) account announced that the screenings surpassed 3 billion yen (US$20.04 million) in just 49 days on the back of over 1.8 million tickets sold.

This makes Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning- only the second advanced theatrical release of a TV anime to pass 3 billion yen after the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba To the Swordsmith Village released in 2023. -Beginning- has also passed To the Hashira Training at the Japanese box office. It is also the 5th highest-grossing theatrical release of the year so far.

Amazon Prime Video also announced today that the TV anime version of Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX will stream on its platform worldwide simultaneously as its Japanese TV broadcast, both dubbed and subbed.

Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX is co-produced at studio khara, which handled the Evangelion movie series, and Bandai Namcon Filmworks sub-brand Sunrise, which has worked on the Gundam series since the first TV anime series in 1979. Kazuya Tsurumaki, who co-directed the Rebuild of Evangelion film series, including the final installment Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time, serves as director alongside series composition writer Yoji Enokido and Hideaki Anno (Evangelion) character designer Take (Pokémon) and mechanical designer Ikuto Yamashita (Evangelion). The TV anime is set to premiere on NTV in Japan on April 8.

GKIDS released Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning- in North America on February 28. Sugoi Co released the feature in Australia and New Zealand on February 27. GKIDS describes the anime as such:

Amate Yuzuriha is a high-school student living peacefully in a space colony floating in outer space. When she meets a war refugee named Nyaan, Amate is drawn into the illegal mobile suit dueling sport known as Clan Battle.

Under the entry name “Machu,” she throws herself into fierce battle day after day, piloting the GQuuuuuuX. Then an unidentified Gundam mobile suit pursued by both the space force and the police appears before her, along with its pilot, a boy named Shuji. Now their world is about to enter a new era.
