Norihigo Yagi’s Claymore manga has a new adaptation in the works, this time in the form of a live-action TV series. According to a Deadline report, CBS Studios and Propagate Content have partnered with Masi Oka (Heroes), who is on board as executive producer along with Ben Silverman, Howard T. Owens, Rodney Ferrell and Japanese publisher Shueisha.
While very little has been revealed yet, the report says the folks behind it hope to keep the action and “complex moral dilemmas” of the source material intact. They are currently seeking a writer to help bring Yagi’s vision to the screen.
Claymore was previously adapted into a 26-episode TV anime—which Hiroyuki Tanaka directed and Madhouse produced—back in 2007. Crunchyroll currently streams the full series.
The original manga ran in the pages of Monthly Shonen Jump from 2001 to 2007 before transitioning to Jump Square from 2007 to its conclusion on 2014. VIZ Media published all 27 volumes of the manga in English, describing the story like so:
A village is gripped by fear and paranoia when a Yoma claims six lives. The Claymore who is sent to slay the creature isn’t what the villagers expect at all. In fact, she seems more monster than human.
