Visitors to this weekend’s AnimeJapan can pick up a preview booklet for the upcoming anime by visiting the Avex Pictures booth. In addition, plans are afoot to re-air season one of Hozuki’s Coolheadedness (also based on a manga by Natsumi Eguchi) in Japan starting April 2.

Eguchi has serialized Dekin no Mogura in Kodansha’s Morning magazine since April 2021, with eight volumes released in Japan to date.
Hiroshi Ishiodori (An Archdemon’s Dilemma: How to Love Your Elf Bride) directs the Dekin no Mogura anime at studio Brain’s Base, with series composition by Shinzo Fujita (To Your Eternity), character designs by Yoko Tanabe (Handyman Saitou in Another World) and music by Tomoki Hasegawa (Grandpa and Grandma Turn Young Again).
The anime is scheduled to premiere in July 2025. The anime’s official website describes the story:
“I can’t die because I’ve been banned from the afterlife.”
Certain circumstances lead Mogura, a dubious self-proclaimed hermit, to collecting the “light” of spirits in a lantern in the hope of being allowed to pass on. It’s said that those who encounter him begin to see strange things…
Natsumi Eguchi, author of Hozuki’s Coolheadedness, portrays a world where humans and spirits weave together in mysterious ways.
The curtain rises on a thought-provoking tale of immortality!
