Japan Box Office: Doraemon the Movie: Nobita’s Art World Tales Stays No.1 for 5 Consecutive Weekends

Doraemon the Movie: Nobita's Art World Tales, the 44th theatrical film from the Doraemon anime franchise, earned 323 million yen (2.18 million USD) on 263,000 admissions in its fifth weekend, according to Kogyo Tsushinsha. While it was a 26 percent drop from last weekend, the film has still maintained its first-place position in the Japanese box office for five consecutive weekends since its release on March 7.

Doraemon the Movie: Nobita’s Art World Tales, the 44th theatrical film from the Doraemon anime franchise, earned 323 million yen (2.18 million USD) on 263,000 admissions in its fifth weekend, according to Kogyo Tsushinsha. While it was a 26 percent drop from last weekend, the film has still maintained its first-place position in the Japanese box office for five consecutive weekends since its release on March 7. The longest a Doraemon movie that stayed at number one was the 39th film Nobita’s Chronicle of the Moon Exploration, which ruled in the box office rankings for six consecutive weekends, from March 2-3 to April 6-7 in 2019.

The film’s cumulative total gross has now reached 3.7 billion yen (25 million USD), making it the ninth top-grossing film in the franchise since 2000, surpassing the 32nd film Nobita and the Island of Miracles—Animal Adventure which earned 3.62 billion yen (24.49 million USD) in 2012.

HYPNOSISMIC -Division Rap Battle-, the first feature film from the rap battle-themed HYPNOSISMIC project, jumped up four positions to sixth in its seventh weekend. The film’s official X (formerly Twitter) announced on April 7 that the film’s cumulative total gross had reached one billion yen (6.76 million USD). It has become the fourth anime film to reach the one billion yen mark in 2025, following Doraemon the Movie: Nobita’s Art World Tales, Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning-, and Colorful Stage! The Movie: A Miku Who Can’t Sing.

A live-action film adaptation of Mashiro’s romantic comedy manga My Love Story with Yamada-kun at Lv999 went down two places to seventh in its second weekend.
