Tayama Midori’s coming-of-age manga of two young girls who dream of becoming K-Pop idols, Girl Crush, has already surpassed 500,000 volumes sold – without even one book on physical selves! Today, the first two volumes of Girl Crush were released in stores in Japan. Still, the series had already seen a digital release, where it gained a massive following and subsequently found a physical publisher.
To celebrate the release of the volumes today, a manga trailer was released alongside a poster that can be seen in bookstores across Japan, celebrating the 500,000-copy milestone.

Girl Crush began publishing in Japan on the LINE Manga platform on November 20, 2020, under Shinchosha’s label Comic Nicola, with chapters released bi-weekly. Eight volumes have been released on digital platforms, with two released physically. The series is licensed by Comikey for a chapter-by-chapter release, with the physical volumes set to be published by Viz Media. The first volume will be released on June 10.
Comikey describes Tayama Midori’s Girl Crush as such:
Tenka Momose, a high school freshman that can sing and dance… she’s pretty and smart to boot! She’s good at everything but love. One day she meets Erian Satou, and was pulled in by her passionate dedication to becoming an idol. This is the story about two young girls chasing after their K-Pop idol dream!!
