Doraemon the Movie: Nobita’s Art World Tales still stayed at first place in the Japanese box office in its sixth weekend of release. The 44th theatrical film from the Doraemon anime franchise earned 181 million yen (1.26 million USD) on 142,000 admissions during the last weekend, according to Kogyo Tsushinsha. That marked a 44 percent drop from its previous weekend but was enough to keep the film in first place for six consecutive weeks.
Among Doraemon films released since 2000, Nobita’s Art World Tales has now become the one to stay in the number one spot for the longest in Japan, along with the 39th film Nobita’s Chronicle of the Moon Exploration in 2019.
After 37 days of release, Nobita’s Art World Tales had earned a cumulative of four billion yen (27.93 million USD) on 3.4 million admissions. It has also become the seventh top-grossing film in the franchise since 2000, surpassing the 33rd film Nobita’s Secret Gadget Museum, which earned 3.98 billion yen (27.79 million USD) in 2013.
HYPNOSISMIC -Division Rap Battle-, the first feature film from the rap battle-themed HYPNOSISMIC project, went up one position to fifth in its eighth weekend, bringing its total to 1.2 billion yen (8.38 million USD) earned from 510,000 ticket sales.
The third chapter of the Space Battleship Yamato remake anime series’ latest installment, Star Blazers: Space Battleship Yamato 3199 “Gunjou no Asteroid” (translated as “Asteroid of the Ultramarine Blue”), opened in 70 theaters on April 11 and made a sixth-place debut, which was the highest in the 3199 series.
The first of the seven-chapter series, “Kuro no Shinryaku” (“Dark Invasion”) released in Japanese theaters in July 2024 and ranked eighth in its opening weekend. The second chapter “Sekijitsu no Shutsugeki” (“Sortie of the Red Sun”) followed on November 2024 and ranked tenth. As previously reported, the fourth chapter titled “Mizuiro no Sasha” (“Light Blue Sasha”) is already scheduled to start theatrical screenings in Japan on October 10, 2025.
The official X (formerly Twitter) for the TRILLION GAME live-action feature film announced that the film’s cumulative total gross had finally reached two billion yen (13.96 million USD) on 1.46 million admissions by April 13. The sequel film to the 2023 TV drama based on the manga series written by Riichiro Inagaki and illustrated by Ryoichi Ikegami opened in 345 theaters in Japan on February 14, and stayed at No.1 in the box office ranking for two consecutive weekends.
