SEGA previously teased plans to bring a bunch of its classic titles to the screen, and the next to be realized is arcade racing classic OutRun. Universal hit the gas on this one with Michael Bay attached to direct and Sydney Sweeney producing. Jayson Rothwell (Polar, Arachnid) is handling the script.
Bay serves as producer, as well, alongside Brad Fuller at their production company Platinum Dunes. Other producers include SEGA’s Toru Nakahara and company president/COO Shuji Utsumi.
The original OutRun arcade game is a racer from 1986 featuring the design work of Yu Suzuki. Beyond the deluxe, hydraulic-powered arcade cabinets on which it was often featured, it’s known for its vibrant visuals and an iconic soundtrack courtesy of Hiroshi Kawaguchi.
As for the film adaptation’s plot, we’ll have to wait for specific details.
