Detective Conan: One-eyed Flashback made new records in box-office gross and ticket sales in Detective Conan/Case Closed series history in its first three days, and also debuted in first-place in the Japanese box office weekend ranking of April 18-20, according to Kogyo Tsushinsha.
The 28th feature film in the Detective Conan/Case Closed anime series opened in a total of 522 theaters (including 55 IMAX, 12 MX4D, 62 4DX, and 9 Dolby Cinema theaters) across Japan on April 18, which was the largest in the history of the franchise. The box office figures and attendance for each of the first three days of the film, according to Animate Times, were as follows:
April 18 (Friday) attendance: 697,355 / box office revenue: 1,058,422,300 yen
April 19 (Saturday) attendance: 835,908 / box office revenue: 1,246,314,200 yen
April 20 (Sunday) attendance: 781,427 / box office revenue 1,133,870,200 yen
The film’s first weekend total gross reached 3,438,626,700 yen (24.41 million USD) on 2,314,690 admissions, which was 102.6 percent above the previous 27th film released last April, Case Closed: The Million-dollar Pentagram (3.352 billion yen). The figures were not only the best in the Detective Conan franchise, but also the best first-week performance of any film released in Japan this year so far.
One-eyed Flashback also ranked No.1 on Filmarks’ first-day satisfaction ranking with an average rating of 4.10/5.0, which was higher than The Million-dollar Pentagram‘s score of 4.04.
Doraemon the Movie: Nobita’s Art World Tales left the first-place spot in its seventh weekend. The 44th theatrical film from the Doraemon anime franchise earned 93 million yen (659,700 USD) on 74,000 admissions and went down to second place. The film’s cumulative total has almost reached 4.2 billion yen (29.81 million USD) with 3.49 million ticket sales. It has now become the sixth top-grossing film in the Doraemon anime franchise since 2000, surpassing the 36th film Nobita and the Birth of Japan 2016, which earned 4.12 billion yen (29.23 million USD) from its total theatrical run.
ME & ROBOCO: The Movie, an anime film based on the comedy manga by Shuhei Miyazaki, released in 150 theaters on April 18 and made a fourth-place debut. The film featuring an original story based on the episode “Multiverse and Roboco” ranked third on Filmarks’ first-day satisfaction ranking with an average rating of 3.72/5.0 based on 259 reviews.
HYPNOSISMIC -Division Rap Battle-, the first feature film from the rap battle-themed HYPNOSISMIC project, dropped three positions to eighth in its ninth weekend.
Coming in tenth was the “Tsuzumi Mansion Arc,” one of the re-edited editions of episodes from the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba TV series began screenings on April 18. Under the project name “Kimetsu Theater,” 11 chapters of the series will be shown in limited theaters in Japan on a weekly basis from April 4 to July 3. A revival screening of the 2020 film Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Movie: Mugen Train is also planned in 423 theaters nationwide from May 9 to June 12.
