“Unit 01’s been awakened and set free. Seele won’t stay quiet for this.”
The city of Hamamatsu in Shizuoka Prefecture, the setting of Village-3 in Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon A Time, unveiled a six-meter-tall statue of Unit 01 earlier this week in the local City Hall. The statue is part of a city-wide local tourism effect which will be running from now until February 2026. NHK released a video of the unveiling ceremony of Unit 01 inside Hamamatsu City Hall.

At the ceremony, an orchestra played a rendition of “A Cruel Angel’s Thesis,” the opening for the original Neon Genesis Evangelion anime series with fans and locals watching staff members of the city hall cut the ceremonial ribbon.
Alongside the statue, various places around Hamamatsu will be holding Evangelion-related events. A stamp rally will be held on the on the Tenryu Hamanako Line at different train stations, including Tenryu-Futamata Station, which was used as the setting for Evangelion: 3.0+1.0. Restaurants around Hamamatsu will also be selling Evangelion-inspired food.
