On October 6, 1974, at 7:30 p.m., the first episode of the TV anime Space Battleship Yamato (Star Blazers in the West) broadcast in Japan. The 26-episode series shocked many viewers and became a social phenomenon in Japan.Under the title "Space Battleship Yamato 50th Anniversary Selection Screening," selected episodes from the first TV series will screen at the Shinjuku Piccadilly theater in Tokyo and 42 other theaters nationwide starting December 27, 2024. This screening is part of the 50th anniversary project planned and produced by Hideaki Anno, who says, “I don't think I would be where I am today without my encounter with 'Space Battleship Yamato'."
